Premier Power Launch Community Fund 2009

Ballylumford-based Premier Power has launched its annual Community Fund to support community groups based in the Larne area. With the initiative now in its fourth year Premier Power is making available a total of £7,500 to support projects which will improve the quality of life for local residents. While the company will consider projects based on all aspects of community life, preference will be given to projects with a focus on supporting older people.

Community groups and other charitable organisations in the Larne area are invited to apply for one of three awards of £2,500 each.

Barbara Stevenson, Premier Power’s Communications Manager said:

Premier Power is well aware of the fantastic work that voluntary groups and other charitable organisations do in the Larne area.  The Community Fund Initiative is one way in which we can support this effort.

“While all applications are welcome, this year we are particularly keen to hear from organisations that have a focus on helping older people. These could include a church retirees group, a luncheon club, or a services provider to elderly people in Larne.”

Reviewing the success of the initiative over the last three years Barbara Stevenson said:

“We are proud of the achievements of groups supported by the Community Fund in previous years, with over £18,000 being awarded to groups who make a real difference to life in the Larne area”

Last years grant winners were Oxygen Therapy Centre in Magheramorne who used the money to increase their service provision; Praxis Care who put their funding towards improvements to living spaces in sheltered accommodation; and Age Concern who channelled their grant into craft and armchair aerobics.

One of last year’s winners Patricia McCullough from Larne’s Age Concern said:

“The Premier Power Community Fund provides vital support for local voluntary groups and charities in Larne. I would urge groups to apply as the process is straightforward and the funding can make a real difference to projects that help the local community. I know this year’s theme of helping groups that have a focus on older people will be a success as there are many hardworking organisations in the Larne area who would welcome the boost.”

The closing date for applications is 28th September. Successful applicants will be contacted via telephone. Please click for an application form and for terms and conditions for the community fund.
